Important Things to Ask in a Post Event Survey to Attendees

Gathering feedback after an event is vital if you wish to assess its performance and see whether your event managed to fulfil the client’s brief. This can be realised by inviting your attendees and other stakeholders to complete a post event survey. Finding out what your attendees thought of your event is essential if you wish to develop and improve your offering for the future.

WHAT IS A POST EVENT SURVEY?

But let’s start from the top: Post-event surveys are questionnaires sent to participants of a live planned occasion after its occurrence. They often contain a combination of multiple choice and open-ended enquiries; however their designs can differ according to what the organisers wants to find out from the participants.

Although attendees are usually the target of the event survey, the form can be sent out to volunteers, event sponsors, employees and speakers.

Among other things, successful event strategies depend on stakeholder satisfaction and event surveys are an effective way to measure this. Whether your goal is to build a case for pitching event sponsors or to improve attendee experience, post event surveys give organisers a good look at how their attendees really perceived the live experience.

WHAT QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER?

We know that every event is different, therefore you cannot expect a standardised template to work for all events. We recommend tailoring your survey to your event based on what insights you’d like to gain. It’s also important to note whether you require qualitive or quantitative data. Questions that gather qualitive data are better at getting more opinion-based insights, whereas questions that gather quantitative data are more suitable for identifying trends.

To give you an insight into the content that can be included in a survey, we’ve prepared a list of question you can consider:

  • Are you likely to participate in one of our events in the future?
  • What did you like and what did you dislike about this event?
  • Did this event meet your expectations?
  • Please indicate your satisfaction for the following aspects of the event: Venue, Speakers, Quality of Sessions, Amount of Sessions Offered.
  • How do you think this event could have been improved?
  • Do you have any other suggestions or comments to help us improve our future events?

We’ve mentioned that event feedback is very important for all your future activity. To ensure a good response rate, why not entice your attendees and stakeholders to take the survey by giving them a discount or voucher which can be used at your next event?
